Story and photo by Bruce Thorson
June 30, 2009, Harry Strunk Lake, near Cambridge, Neb: Barbara Hughes (right), 66, from Cape Coral, Florida, is camping with her daughter, Tracey Daily (left), 40, and her family. The group went out to the lake shore to watch the evening sunset, which wasn't as thrilling as they had hoped for. As the sun dipped down to the horizon it disappeared behind a low line of clouds. The Dailey family has been coming here, from their home in Denver, Colorado, for the last five years. "There's water here," Dailey said when asked why they travel the long driving distance. As for today's economy hampering their vacation plans she said, "My husband is a firefighter and paramedic and his job is recession-proof. I'm in sales and it has been affected by the economy."
